I want to know if you must do the air shots for every single injection or just at the start of a new pen. My diabetes educator said you don't, but the manufacturer says yes. I am concerned about running out before the insurance company will pay for another pen.

Also, on average, how long does a pen last?

Are you using insulin or Byetta? If insulin I would say to only air shoot once in the beginning, same with Byetta. As to how long the pen will last - nothing past 30 days. Byetta only gives us a 30 day supply and if you are using insulin some of that will depend on how much you take per day. Again nothing past 30 days and sometimes you need to use more so you can use it up before 30 days but that is in the prescription and I never had a problem getting more when needed, the insurance paid.

I have to read better and not be so quick to answer. You are using Levemir. Duh
