Its been a long time since I looked at this group--for the last year my blood sugar has been 103 never below 100 about every morning. Then my dr. gave me a steriod shot for allergies and my readings went up to 125 range. The Dr. said wait it out and the readings will come back down. I went to Colo. for a 10 day vacation. This was over the Christmas and New Year season. When I got back by readings went up to 140-150 range .I am taking Byetta 10 each day early in the morning. Also Amaryl in the morning and Actos in the evening before bed. I am back on my eating habits Breakfast=2 eggs toast and 2/3 cups of coffee no creamer -----The other meal varies from 11 am to 2 pm which is generally a lite meal such as meat,salad/w dressing----nothing after 2 pm I have lost about 90 pounds in the last year/half. I have been having a little trouble with arthritis so I began taking fish oil Omega 3 each day (1200 mg 4 each day)2 in the morning and 2 each nite before going to bed.Question will the Omega 3 effect my blood sugar readings. How do I get my readings down again? thanks and please forgive my spelling. ;-)

actos 15 mg
amaryl 4mg 2 with breakfast
byetta 10 before breakfast

could someone tell me how to get spell check on this site?

Hi Grandpa:

a) Spellcheck doesn't work.

b) Wow, I wonder if you need to eat more regular meals more often? I think we've had this discussion before, but I'm hoping Geri will come online (maybe tomorrow) and talk about it some more. She knows more about it.

I also wonder if the once a day Byetta isn't enough anymore?

I wish I had better advice or suggestions to offer. But I doubt the fish oil is the problem. More likely, the arthritis increases your physical stress level, which probably increases BGs. :(

I'm wondering if you may have to have the second shot of Byetta into your diet and eat more food. I know if I don't eat enough evenly spaced throughout the day my numbers go up. I'd call your dr if your numbers don't start going down in a bit. How long ago did you have the steroid shot? It could still be causing problems for you.

I would not wait to long with these elevated blood sugars. Have you talked to your doctor about using Metformin? That might do the trick and get these numbers down.

It sounds like you are watching your diet closely, that is a good thing. I would cut out the toast for awhile and see what that does. Fish Oil would do little to sugars.

As you discovered steroids can cause major havoc on sugars.

I would not wait too long with these sugars this high. Insulin always works and you should consider that if nothing is working.

There are different types of insulin. Fast acting taken before eating that helps take care of the carbs you are about to eat. Medium length, around 8 hours, taken either before bed to help get you through the night and sometimes taken in the morning to help keep daytime numbers lower. Long acting, 18-24 hrs, that are usually taken at bedtime. As far as I know insulins will not carry over from one day to the next.

Fantastic. Sometimes when we get off track we need a swift kick in the pants and get back to basics. At least I do. Great numbers.
