Has anyone started Victoza yet? I have it but am afraid of the nausea. I read somewhere that nausea is worse for those who have been on Byetta. Anyone?

I just started Victoza today after 2 years on Byetta. So far it's going well. I was able to take my a.m meds, which I was not able to do with Byetta, take the Victoza, and eat my breakfast without any nausea! This evening I was not able to eat very much, but still no nausea. I certainly hope this continues.

I just got back from my endo's office and I'm starting Victoza tomorrow so I'll let you all know how it works for me. I don't anticipate digestive problems like I had with Byetta in the beginning.

I thought I'd let everyone know how my experience goes with Victoza so others will consider trying it. I took my first shot this am and I can eat anytime I want since it is not tied to meals like Byetta is. The pen set up is pretty much the same but the pen is more like an insulin pen and you dial up the dose you need. There are 3 different doses of Victoza but you use one pen. I start with the lowest dose for 1 week then move up to the middle dose until my dr tells me to move up to the highest dose. Not much else to report since I took my first shot minutes ago. I'm looking forward to a successful experience with Victoza.

Wow Geri, I will be really interested to hear your results on Victoza. The adjustable dosage seems to be a plus, and not having to worry about when you eat another plus. I'm anxious to hear how you do on it, keep us posted.

Karen,

Just wanted to check and see how things were going with you and Victoza. I started today and so far only some lightheadedness. Did you have that too? No nausea so far but not alot of interest in food either.

Geri, good luck with the Victoza. I hope it works well and does even more for you than Byetta did. Was wondering if you have to keep it refrigerated and if there are any temp restrictions like with Byetta. I'm sure it is much easier to use being it is once a day and at any time. It will be great if it works as well or better than Byetta.

Same temp restrictions apply to Victoza that apply to Byetta. That's the one unfortunate part but can't have it all.

So far so good. No nausea but still having a few problems with being lightheaded. Since I have a CGM I was able to look at my numbers when I got up during the night and they were much lower than before. I'll keep you posted about it all as thing happen.

Hi Victoza users,
I'm on my second try at injections. Because it will not hold down sugar in its .06 dose, my endo told me to keep it down with insulin. First try made me very lightheaded/nauseous. I waited a day and have now tried again. I want this to work. Perhaps the lightheadedness etc was caused by VERY high blood sugar (350s). I'm trying it now with insulin even though it isn't recommended because my endo told me she didn't expect it would do much for my sugar in the low doses. I'll keep you posted. Please keep us informed.

Not a lot of lightheadedness the second day, only when I bent over and stood up faster than normal(was doing spring carpet cleaning). My during the night numbers were again lower than before so Victoza seems to be helping that. Sleeping very soundly so that's good too. The only problem is it doesn't give me the same drops after the shot like Byetta did when I ate my meals so my get up and go hormones will send me higher than I would like when I first wake up. I have been eating my breakfast right away to keep me from going way too high when I first wake up.

All in all I'm pleased. After 4 years of being on Byetta it feels good to not have to take another shot before dinner and try to time it properly.

Hi Geri-
So far so good with Victoza! I went up to 1.2 today and expected to experience some effects but did not. Like you, very little nausea (just a few minutes worth), some headache/light headedness, and not much interest in food. I'm anxious to see how my numbers read now that I'm on the 1.2 dose. My life has changed for the better at this point - not having to time eating or when to take my other medications is fantastic.

I am a little disappointed that I sent an email message to the folks at Victoza asking several questions and I have not heard anything back yet.

Karen,

I'm glad things are going good. I've got a few more days before I jump up to the next dose but so far so good. Better than I had expected. It's my night time numbers that I've seen the biggest change which means my fbgs are lower. WhooHoo.

Still experiencing some lightheadedness but no more nausea at all. I seem to feel full a bit faster so I'm really paying attention more just so I won't get sick. All in all this has been an easy change from Byetta(4 years) to Victoza.

Please keep us UTD on how you are doing so others can learn too.

Do you check your blood pressure to make sure the lightheadedness is not due to that? I know with your continuous meter you would know if the new meds were making your blood sugar go too low. I'm happy to hear all else is going well on Victoza and hope it continues. Good luck.

No I haven't checked my BP. Thurs it was 128/76 at the drs, before starting Victoza. Not sure it would go lower that fast. Dizziness is a known side effect according to the package insert so I'm going by that.

I had my semi annual check today. A1c is higher on the Januvia than the Byetta but still it's only 5.7 so I'm not complaining. Just started on Victoza today, a little light headed but no nausea. Once a day means that I don't need to carry my pen around with me every day. Not as convenient as a once a day pill but more convenient than Byetta. We'll see how it goes. B-)

Fantastic news about being put on Victoza. I'm still suffering from the dizziness but it's not as bad as it was on my first day. Went boxing last night for the first time since starting Victoza and did get dizzy a few times and had to stop and get my head back in shape. Hope I don't have a problem tomorrow night.

Let us all know how it goes for you. This is what it was like when Byetta first came out. Sharing our experiences.

I was told skip the 0..6 mg dosage and just start at the 1.2 mg dose since I had been on Byetta 10 mcg for a while. The light headed feeling lasted less than an hour and the full feeling seems to be the new norm. (boxes of Girl Scout cookies were delivered to my office and all are still unopened (angel) )

BG numbers before and after a light lunch were "normal" and the best thing so far is absolutely no nausea. I had lunch out of habit not because I was even the least bit hungry. The Byetta LAR discussion sort of convinced me to try this out since it doesn't look like it will be available for quite a while.

I wondered about that since my dr started me on the starting dose. I go up on Fri to the 1.2. I'm still getting the lightheadedness with the 0.6 so I'm sticking to the 0.6 dose until Fri.

Hope things continue to go well for you.

Does the Victoza pen last for a month like Byetta? How many different dose adjustments are there? Is 1.6 the max or does it go up higher? Do they have it that way so the body adjusts gradually to it or does it depend on your numbers as to how much to take as with some insulins? It is intriguing and I look forward to more of your updates as well as the others who are posting about it.
