Well, so far, I'm not so impressed, only one injection so can't really say. This morning, my FBG was 97, took my first injection of Victoza, my doc had suggested starting with the 1.2 dosage, since I had been on Byetta for the past 3 1/2 years. Ate breakfast, and one hour post breakfast I was at 226! I normally did not take a byetta injection with my breakfast, and my normal post breakfast high was at most 150-160. So a little surprised at that high of a number. Ate my usual breakfast, which is about 22 carbs. Now it is almost noon, and my latest BG is 166, after an hour of vigorous exercise. My usual BG at noon, before my Byetta shot is around 85-90.

I had that problem too in the beginning except my dr started me on the lowest dose. Give it more time to get into your system. According to what the article that Toney posted it takes 6-8 hrs for Victoza to reach it's highest levels in our bodies so...well maybe today will be better.
Keep us posted on how you do.

Starting on day 4 of Victoza. Days 1 and 2, I was on the 1.2 dosage, and noticed much higher BG's than normal for me (on Byetta). So I changed to 1.8 dose for day 3. Much better numbers, FBG 81, noon 92, one hour post prandial 110, then I got busy and was unable to check any other BG's until dinner, which pre-dinner I was at 139 and two hours after dinner at 133. this morning FBG 78. No real bad side effects that I have noticed, no nausea or headaches, which I had with Byetta. Also, someone else has mentioned this, while on Byetta I had a distinct eating pattern, certain foods just did not sound appetizing to me, haven't noticed that with Victoza. The once a day shot is much easier to deal with, especially when you are out and about.

My sample pen of Victoza ran out, and I requested a prescription from my doctor, but am now waiting for authorization from my mail order pharmacy, NextRx. So today, I went back on Byetta 10mcg. No nausea, but I got extremely cold, so much so that I had to get in bed and wrap up in a down comforter, and it is 90 degrees outside! My numbers are a little lower with Byetta, but I was hopeful that my numbers would improve after being on Victoza for more than a week, but now have to wait for another pen.

I'm curious what other meds you are taking with the Victoza.
I am having good results, but I also take Actos, and Glipizide. I am thinking I need a timed release version of glipizide, like Glucotorl XL or somethign (one I took long ago).
Without the Glipizide I do go higher than I should. If I take a 5mg 3 times a day I am keeping very good readings.
I see my endo in another month and plan to discuss a timed release.
Also, is anyone taking an insulin with it? My endo said that over time, he expects I may get 'ideal control' if he adds on insulin but wanted to see how it goes w/o it for now.. I don't recall which type he was considering.

Now officially on my third pen of Victoza, so have been on it for 20 days in succession. Had a short trial period of one free pen, but then ran out and had to wait for insurance to approve the new prescription for Victoza. BG's seem to be more stable, no lows that I sometimes got with Byetta. Had my A1c yesterday, and it was 5.8.
I don't have any side effects with Victoza, no nausea, headaches and no real appetite suppression. But the once a day injection is great, I like that.

Fantastic Teri. Wish I had a 5.8 A1C.
Had another low this am, down to 57. I started to black out but was able to get glucose tabs down me. Much better now.
Be careful Teri and carry glucose tabs with you at all times just to be safe.

You be careful too Geri, I always carry glucose tabs or some hard candy in my purse. I was pleased with my A1c, the last one had been 6.4 but I had also had steroid injections in my feet, which had caused my BG's to skyrocket. On Byetta I was usually around 5.9 the previous two A1cs.
I no longer have that "cold" feeling that I used to have on Byetta. There would be some afternoons when I just had to climb in bed with sweat pants/sweat shirt and socks just to get warm.
