I would say start directly on Victoza. Byetta has been out for 5 years now whereas Victoza has only been available for 6 months here in the US. Byetta has to be timed to your meals twice per day and is a very good medication. Victoza is a once per day shot not timed to any meal and the jury is still out on it since it is so new. So far I like Victoza.
It would be great to have someone start Victoza on the board who hasn't been on Byetta first so if you decide to give it a try, please let us know how it goes for you.

Byetta helped a lot of diabetics, but Victoza is better. According to a recent clinical study publishe June 8 advance online issue of The Lancet, Byetta helped diabetic patients to reduce their A1c by 0.79%, while Victoza reduced A1c by 1.12%.
Feeling nauseous is a side effect for both Byetta and Victoza, but you will overcome this sensation after taking Victoza more rapidly, also, episodes of hypoglycemia is reduced with Victoza. Furthermore, Victoza is taken once daily and not tied to meals.
Regarding weight loss, Victoza causes more weight loss, though the difference in weight loss for both drugs is not significant. You can always ask your doctor about the most suitable drug for you.

I agree, skip the Byetta.
I moved from Byetta to Victoza as soon as it came out. The good news is my control seems very good. While I do have an occasional reading as high as 250 when I eat wrong, it comes down pretty quick.
I am fortunate, as I have no side effects on Victoza. I didn't have nausea on Byetta, but did have other side effects.
I started Victoza on March 30. I just did one of those home A1c tests, with Appraise, and it came back at 5.6. My one in March was 6.3.
From what I read, everybody says that the Appraise is always within .2 of what they get when they go to a lab. I presume that could be + or -, so that would mean I could be at 5.4 to 5.8.
I'm pretty happpy with that.
