Full Version: Best injection site for Byetta

Been on Byetta for 3 days now with no bad side effects, just a little stomach cramping but I heard the nausea might get worse once the medicine is in your system for a couple of days. I have been injecting in my abdomen, but I recently read in other posts that injecting in the arm or thigh will reduce the nausea furthermore, when using the arm or thigh... your putting the medicine in an area that has less fat cells and it will work better. Any thoughts?

Type 2
Metformin 1000x2
Byetta 5

I didn't have much trouble with nausea so don't know about one injection site being better than another but I inject in my stomach and thighs. I use one area for a few months and then switch to the other but usually use my thighs in the summer because of easy access when wearing shorts. Sometimes I find when changing sites I get better results.

Once you are experiencing nausea you should inform your doctor about this. Nausea is consider to be a side effect so please my dear don't take it to be the norm.

Hi
Best sites in your body for injections are abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. You can use the back of your upper arm also. In order to overcome problems in your skin, always make new injection a finger width away from an old one. It is better not to inject near your navels, scares, or moles to avoid problems of absorption.
After taking Byetta for some time, most people tolerate feeling nauseous, so if you don’t overcome this feeling consult your doctor.

I've never seen it recommended or heard of anyone injecting Byetta or insulin into their buttocks. Even in the instructions for how and where to inject it doesn't mention that area. I'm wondering if it is because it is more difficult for people to inject there than the other areas or if it isn't a good place to inject.

Anna,

Where did you hear the information about using the buttocks for injecting Byetta? The Amylin website (Byetta.com) recommends only the thighs, abdomen or the back of the upper arm, and I was given the same injection site information from my endocrinologist. I have been taking Byetta for more than 4.5 years and until your post I have never heard of using the buttocks as an injection location. Additional information on where this recommendation originated from would be appreciated. Thanks,

According to Joslin Diabetes Center, upper outside or wallet area of the buttock, but not the lower buttock area, can be one of sites for injecting insulin
Check this link http://www.joslin.org/info/how_to_improve_the_insulin_injection_experience.html
Also, check this article “insulin routines” in the official website in American Diabetes Association http://www.diabetes.org/living-with-diabetes/treatment-and-care/medication/insulin/insulin-routines.html
Kindly, see the paragraph titled “site Rotation”, you will find that both buttocks and thighs are mentioned in the same line.

Perhaps that is for insulin and other meds but not Byetta? Some meds get injected into different areas for different reasons. Also some organizations/doctors have different opinions about things and they don't always agree on everything. Who do you believe? Ah, that is the question.
