Hi everyone! I haven't been on here for quite some time because I could never sigh in. Now it is letting me in. Can you tell me how long victorza has been out. In another thread I stated that I have been on byetta 10 for over 2 years. During that time, I had tremendous nausea and threw up 3-4 times a week. My endo said I was suppose to be sick and that was how I lose weight. He is well respected. My last visit, I told him I can't tolerate the 10 pen but he still wants me on it. So right now I am on the 5 pen. My A1c's have been running 5.7 prior to the 5 pen. I started a low carb diet and have kicked up my exercising and I have lost 6 lbs so far. The first 2 weeks my bs numbers were much better and now they are going up despite exercising more and eating less. I am wondering why my endo has never mentioned victorza to me. He also treats me for thryoid. I have had my thyroid removed with radio active treatment. I am very frustrated right now. If anyone has any suggestions as to what I should do, I would sure appreciate it. The meds I am on right now for diabetes are byetta 5, amaryl 1 mg. and metformin 850 3 x a day. Thanks!!

I'm no Dr. but I can't imagine that you are 'supposed' to be throwing up, that's how you lose weight. That seems ridiculous to me.
I was on Byeta for 4 years, or more. It worked well for me. I do know that nausia is a very common side affect, but 'supposed to do that'? Many people get past it with some time.
I have been on Victoza since March. I like it much better, and have better results with it.
I think you should ask him about trying it. There are news articles about it working better. Do a Google search. I don't know of going in armed with info will help or hurt. Never know how someone will respond.
If your endo is totally against it, then I think a 'second opinion' would be in order. Given the positive results that seem to be coming of it, it only makes sense to me.

Victoza just came out this year, maybe the end of last year whereas Byetta has been out 5 years now this summer. I agree, you should not be throwing up that much at this point. With all that throwing up you must be super thin by now, if not then your drs theory is blown.
For us diabetics, keeping control can be more difficult when we ramp up our exercise programs in the summer. I have found that I have to really drink alot more water before going to boxing if I want to make it through the class. My numbers tend to bounce more if I don't. Plus if you are dieting your liver may be kicking in glucose to make up for the lack of it because of dieting and your ramped up exercise. Also, for me, the summer heat makes my body work harder and I seem to have higher numbers on the hot days and lower on the cooler days. Strange but true. And watch your fruit intake, I tend to eat more fruit during the summer with bad results. I'm trying to eat more veggies this summer instead. Not my idea of a good time but I'm trying the veggie route this year.
